I need to revise my first reply to you about the Open Core Legacy Patcher and what it can do. It is very sophisticated software and I didn't give it enough credit with my original response to you.

Your take is the accurate one, it really is a game changer for older Intel Macs.

While I haven't done so yet, I plan to use it to keep a 2012 iMac still being used by a relative up-to-date and running a newer version of macOS with better security. It already has an SSD installed internally as the boot drive, so I expect the performance hit to be minimal for them.

Before I do that, I'll be using and testing OCLP on my old 2011 iMac once it has an SSD installed. I had the SSD already since it was an upgrade I'd planned years ago to do myself, but I finally found a great local Mac tech who can do it for me at a great price, with a warranty.

At one time I thought I'd attempt it myself, but after seeing the teardown process on iFixit, I decided to just pay a seasoned Apple Certified tech to do it.
