re <<--the reported story-->>

(1) re flights: I have been delayed often, and very extremely occasional over the past 42 years for at least 3 times of over 24 hours.

china's airspace is 70% allocated to the military for whatever use, and flight delays / diversions is common, thus making hi-speed rail a sensible alternative short- / intermediate-distance transport.

in most other domains ~90% of airspace is allocated to civil aviation authority, the opposite of china.

the fact that the military was not reported to have taken action against whatever was causing delays around Tianjin is all we are authorised to know at our pay grade. Counting on police to do anything is a nonstarter.

speculations (in reverse order of likelihood): test flights of whatever newsflare.com , descending space junk abc7.com , flights of whatever from outside of domain but of earthly origin abcnews.go.com , UFO, etc etc

(2) re beepers and such: the boss of the Taiwan provincial business known as Gold Apollo is panicking, and apparently tremendous for china china china export businesses as buyers now insisting all-china sourcing for certain types of goodies
