Peter Lynch emphasized that he did extensive DD on his investments before making them, even though the original ideas may have come from trips to the mall, etc. SI can be a good source of ideas leading not to investment, but to further investigation. After the investment is made, a very active thread can be a good place to keep tabs on a company's current events. Varying opinions about a company's news by others following the stock can be useful.
