Globe says Felderhof lawyer sees FIA report as vindication

Bre-X Minerals Ltd BXMShares issued 2191033301997-05-07 close $0.09Friday Feb 20 1998The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday, February 20, edition that the full report into the fraud at Bre-X Minerals proves that former vice-chairman John Felderhof was not involved in any tampering and clearly shows that there is gold at Busang, Mr Felderhof's lawyer said yesterday. The Globe's Paul Waldie writes that Toronto lawyer Joe Groia says his client, Mr Felderhof, comes out looking like a dedicated, hardworking geologist as a result of the report. He also says the geological sections of the report show there is a substantial amount of gold at Busang. The Globe says Mr Groia's comments are at odds with the results of the Strathcona Mineral Services report which said there was insignificant amounts of gold at Busang. Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold also found very little of the yellow mineral. The investigators, Forensic Investigative Associates, hired by Bre-X last May after the Strathcona audit, say deceased geologist Michael de Guzman orchestrated the Busang scam.
