Being in the equipment end of the semiconductor business, the word on the street yesterday was that Lam was going to start announcing a layoff of approximately 10% of their work force. This came to me from several people that work at Lam that or worried about their jobs. Several were from sales and marketing. As of yet nobody from the research or engineering side is out looking.
As another note, there is a lack of Lam's presence in the CMP market. I am not sure about their new technology, however, I can tell you that the current equipment on the market is very expensive from a cost of ownership side, and any improvement would be welcome.
