Last night I watched some veteran meteorologists discussing Helene, and they both emphasized two aspects of the storm; the extremely low central pressure, under 940 isobars, and that because it was moving so fast and was so large and intense, it was forecast to remain at hurricane strength all the way to Macon, something neither had ever imagined happening.

What will make the damage worse is that much of Helene's path had already received up to 6" of rain in the few days before the storm arrived.

And I continue to be astounded at the number of people stupid enough not to evacuate.
