Yes, real 386's were available. Being a college student at the time, I couldn't afford one. I could afford a 386SX-16, and I was very happy with it! It compiled NetHack much faster than my buddy's 286-16.

Gee, was I too stupid to know that it had a 16-bit bus? I certainly though that I knew what I was getting at the time. Maybe I should sue somebody... :-)
