Satellite usage is interesting. It seems that some of the new systems coming into play seem to be used for backup connections. For example, my office is connected to our service provider via an OC3 laser dish on the roof, but we are also installing dark fiber (fancy way of saying fiber optic cable) to the same provider. I think most of the satellite usage will be for backup and emergency usage. It will probably be a major player in giving internet access to remote regions.

Cheers,

Kent
