So Jonathan, you're saying that the WDM market only has room for one vendor and that vendor is LU?

Remember CIEN pleased WCOM beyond their wildest dreams...

''CIENA has been and remains our DWDM supplier of choice,'' said John Sidgmore, WorldCom's vice chairman and chief
operating officer. ''During 1997, CIENA delivered more capacity and at a faster rate than we frankly thought was possible.

WorldCom has not changed its
commitment to being the bandwidth leader and intends to continue to aggressively provision the capacity afforded by
CIENA's DWDM systems throughout our growing network,''

Clients that CIEN is currently courting are going to love this quote. Furthermore it appears CIEN has an excellent testimonial site which is what makes the world go around in the carrier biz..

''We continue to believe we have the best product at the best price for AT&T and we are confident the testing and evaluation
process is confirming this view,'' stated Patrick Nettles. ''We remain optimistic about the revenue potential of this relationship
for fiscal 1998 and beyond and will continue to focus our efforts on obtaining the majority share of the total opportunity.

Isn't it funny how CIEN appears to be following the same route that StrataCom did.... who eventually was purchased by CSCO for $4+B. Something to think about. Note that there are a few ex-STRM folks at CIEN.....

At a minimum CIEN will get picked up by a LU competitor. But to say they get crushed - which I take to mean they go away - I think is a bit strong... No? I think this is a great buying opportunity however I may wait a day or two until the pup settles a bit.
