Cabletron to acquire or merge with PAIR????

A former PAIR employee told me that he had heard internally that Cabletron was strongly evaluating a merger with PAIR. I didn't really understand why, except for that one of their competitors, Cisco, was also looking to acquire PAIR. Would Cabletron have an advantage by implementing xDSL into their own equipment. Any thoughts???
