The dominate quality of the Democratic party is its embrace of science and reason, whereas the Republican party embraces myths, lies and conspiracies e.g. Trump, MTG and Fox news!
The ancient Greeks were the first major culture to focus on science and logic instead of myths.
They were our teachers.
The Democrats learned, the Republicans not so much!
Will Durant who spent his life writing the history of civilization, and wrote a complete chapter on the ancient Greeks who he felt were contemporary to modern thought, and took us fast forward into modern civilization with their discussions on ethics and democracy, and dramatic increase in abstract higher order thinking, like Plato's: "Allegory of the Cave", and were the dominate culture to do that until the modern age.
His introduction to his book on the ancient Greeks impressed me so much it became my favorite quote of all time:
"The dominate quality of the Greek mind, was its persistent effort to subvert myth to reason, because whereas myths may change, reason remains the same, for all people and all time, and makes brothers of its lovers." |
