Further reflections in the wake of Helene and Milton...

If you are anywhere on the American coast of the Gulf of Mexico when a tropical storm spins up in those super-heated waters and and develops a track heading anywhere near your location, get out as fast as you can. If anyone you care about is there, harass them until they leave.

I think Helene and Milton will be the tipping point for the coming depopulation of Florida. Many will not rebuild because they are sick of the destruction and/or can no longer get insurance. Although no doubt some new inhabitants will be attracted as housing prices drop due to lack of demand, they will before long also leave. I expect Florida to contribute millions of people to the coming wave of climate change refugees, which is predicted to reach a billion within a few decades unless humanity drastically changes its ways. Just imagine a Cat 5 making a direct hit on Miami Beach, located on an island barely above sea level.

I also expect the likes of New Orleans, Galveston, and Houston to depopulate in the coming decades.

And finally, I cannot under-emphasize how despicable and depraved it is to put people's lives in danger by making up lies about disaster response in the face of storms like Helene and Milton. I would also label anyone who spreads these lies as despicable.
