You have the wrong idea about drugs. I thought you were a scientist? I think your wife is into biotech?

Let me offer a more rational point of view.

1) all cultures use drugs & mostly hate the people who use other drugs due to religious prejudice

2) In the sixties one of the quotes from hippies was "Speed Kills" - There are "body" drugs and "mind" drugs. Body drugs make you feel good and are addictive. Mind drugs are often uncomfortable and are generally not addictive. Users believe mind drugs open minds.

BODY DRUGS
booze
speed (including nicotine & caffeine)
opiates

MIND DRUGS
marijuana
Psilocybin mushrooms
peyote
LSD etc

I've had many friends addicted to body drugs and ZERO addicted to mind drugs.

The predisposition to become addicted to any drug is genetic and vary in intensity and to the drug. In other words some alcoholics have no use for speed and visa versa.

Our drug laws were originally passed to repress voting & allow white cops to harass black & brown people denying them a vote & suppressing their economic power.

Our 90 year drug war has been 100% useless otherwise, and despite all evidence continues, rewards criminals and corrupt cops. In fact its been counter productive just as prohibition was.

Homelessness is less a function of alcoholism or addiction and more of a function of capitalism & bad luck. The newly homeless in the south are getting a dose of the latter.

Many addicts function economically quite well. In fact I've seen stats that indicate alcoholics have higher incomes than average, which indicates that assumptions that body drugs cause homelessness are inaccurate.

Your religious beliefs may vary and are not scientific, or empathetic.
