Charles, good to hear from you! I guess you can't argue with Buffet's results, although one could nit-pick his methodology. The interesting point is that he's using a buy and hold strategy wrapped around a very loosely defined value model. Using earnings predictability is probably a great surrogate for risk, since risk is generally defined in terms of the std. deviation of expected returns. The only problem that I have with this general approach is that because technology changes so rapidly, today's leader could very rapidly become tomorrow's laggard, and next years leader could very easily be a company we've never heard of. I once heard him quoted as saying "Buy a good company and go to sleep for twenty years." Unfortunately, this approach could very easily kill an investor in the world of high-tech companies.
