United Safety Begins Campaign To Make Saf T Lok A "Household Name"
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 20, 1998--United Safety Action, a New York based distribution company, made public today their marketing plan for Saf T Lok (NASDAQ: LOCK - news), a patented device that prevents a firearm from discharge by an unauthorized user through a coded, touch oriented locking mechanism.
United's CEO Arthur Braun, stated that his company will be focused on retail avenues as part of their agreement with Saf T Lok. ''During my 30 years in the distribution and warehousing business, I have acquired many professional relationships and contacts that will expedite Saf T Lok's arrival on store shelves.'' Braun added, ''I owned the largest warehouse on the east coast and have marketed a multitude of products to retailers who handle all types of merchandise. Those familiar routes will be the first we travel in the retail marketing of this life saving device.''
United's agreement affords the company the right to market both the grip lock and the magazine lock to retailers, sub-distributors, gun clubs and private individuals worldwide. Saf T Lok will continue their concentrated efforts on the non-private sector by pursuing law enforcement agencies, military, government entities and gun manufacturers.
Saf T Lok announced yesterday that an agreement had been reached in which United Safety Action would purchase $20 million worth of grip and magazine locks at a fixed price over the next two years. ''We have already put a tremendous amount of effort in marketing,'' said Braun. ''Our website is just about ready to go on-line and we truly feel we can sell millions of Saf T Lok's through that medium.'' He added, ''I have done extensive research before we entered into any agreement on this product and I discovered two very clear and apparent truths: the Saf T Lok is a life saving product that is not only needed, but wanted by handgun owners throughout the world and that there is no other gun lock that even compares to this ingenious patented device.''
''We are currently putting together a comprehensive sales force to execute our marketing plan,'' said Braun. ''We will be ready immediately as the publicity continues to swell over the gun safety lock mandate in New York City. Not only that, but this mandate appears to be a certainty for approval and we will have Saf T Lok on the shelves for needy buyers.''
Also driving the sales of the devices will be a $5 million advertising campaign that United Safety Action has agreed to employ. ''With Saf T Lok'S help, we'll be spearheading a name and product recognition campaign in a variety of media nationwide,'' said Braun. ''We're going to aggressively inform the public at large of Saf T Lok's life saving ability and availability.''
Braun added that he thinks their initial efforts may, in fact, be too conservative. ''I am ready right now to put on shelves every lock the company can manufacture,'' said Braun. ''There are in excess of a billion firearms worldwide and right now we're only approaching a 2% penetration of the U.S. market. Our sales force will be covering not only the U.S. market, but the overseas markets as well.''
''After learning how Saf T Lok can make a handgun safer, I couldn't help but compare it with the seat belts that are in every automobile manufactured today,'' Braun added. ''This product should be on every one of the millions of handguns in American homes, let alone the world. I'm tired of reading headlines about a child accidentally killing or maiming another child because they had access to a loaded and unlocked weapon. This tragedy not only affects the victim, but it forever changes the life of the shooter and both families. I am proud to be providing a product that resolves this problem without compromising the usefulness of the weapon.''
He continued, ''The only legitimate reason for not having this lock on the weapon in your home is if you don't know that Saf T Lok exists and we will be removing that reason very soon.'' |
