When I see the word "misinformation" my eyes glaze over.
There is, literally, nothing that can be done about it. And I'm not sure we'd want to.
We have so called "peer review", for example, and in the scientific literature it is a total joke. In politics, it is even worse: Because the news media is protected, anything goes (unless you're Fox News, of course). But you can lie about Donald Trump all you want. In one case CNN claimed to have "22 off the record sources" reporting some bit of "truth" from the Mueller investigation which somehow (hehe) turned out to be wrong.
51 "former intelligence agents" were critical in corrupting the 2020 election (we're apt to see something along those lines shortly) outcome, total misinformation (lies), yet Democrats everywhere and some Republicans (the targets) bought it. It chocked full of obvious lies, but that didn't matter.
So when you talk about "doing something" about misinformation, the unanswerable question is "Who knows what the truth is?" You? Me? Bentway? CJ?
It is a topic without a logical end point. And information is in all most all cases, time-sensitive.
Talk of anyone doing anything about lies is a total joke. |
