Context matters.

Context matters but not to my point. If it's between the quotation marks it has been said. You can come back with the context thing and try to explain an alternative explanation for what he said but he said it. The context of our discussion is that you said you required a video, not a published quote. I insist that a quote is as good as a video. They can crop videos to change the context of that as easily as a published quote. Videos and quotes are equivalent.

Surely you're not saying that politicians say something other than what they mean...

If they do so innocently, they can always correct the record. "What I meant to say was" works very well. Puts them on record for what they meant.
