I was fortunately out of town when Katrina hit Louisiana.

But I decided to stay for Ida. Big mistake.

Power was not restored for 9 days

I cannot install a generator on account of code requirements so I don't have one.

Fortunately, I had friends with generators. But I felt like an intruder. And I hate to impose on my friends.

I did what I had to do including taking nighttime naps on a floating mattress in my pool which, incidentally, got pretty nasty after a while. Iced towels on top of my head. Naps in an air conditioned car. Anything to stay cool in that 90+ F, 90% humidity weather.

But it all seems picayune compared to what the poor people of Asheville are going through. And winter approaches.

I can't imagine that the inhabitants of such a bucolic, seemingly untouchable city had in their wildest dreams ever imagined that they would suffer like this.

Everything can change in a second.
