Indeed, our society is turning hyperactively hedonistic. We’ve forgot that not all cultural change is for the better - it is self evident that older cultures, in the end, allowed the human species to survive and prosper. There are no guarantees that this will continue forever.

Speaking of GDP - I always thought that GDP per capita is a more important indicator. With a large and growing population, the general GDP can keep going up - but people may remain poor.

From what I read, South Korea still has the largest number of industrial robots per 10K of human employees. Japan is pretty high. China is catching up. Had we done the same, we would be far more competitive.

About household formation and procreation… that’s a complex one. For that, a person has to like the idea of community - and like the idea that “the show must go on”. You need a person to identify with more than oneself - and one’s desires and interests. Young people need to be given a sense of history - of their family, nation, civilization, religion, mythology.
