Why was cross-examination not permitted? The J6 hearing was just that, a hearing. It was not a criminal trial. Lawyers were allowed to be present for the person's testifying and they were allowed to take the fifth, which many did. More for you-----
Before going further into this issue, I have a couple of comments to make for clarification purposes. I’m am not a Republican, not a conservative, and not a Trump supporter of voter. Trump is a bully and a buffoon, and his claims of a stolen election in 2020 are total BS. Additionally, the January 6 attack on the Capitol was wrong. It was criminal. It was an embarrassment, and it remains a stain on our nation. However, I will look at all of the pertinent issues, including investigations and blame laying honestly.
The January 6 Hearing is not a trial. Let that sink in. It is not a trial. There are no “Rules of Evidence,” or even rules of fair play involved. The hearing was called by the House of Representatives leadership, which controls the hearing, and makes all the rules. They make whatever rules they wish, and there is no recourse. Nada. Zip.

Why was only partisan questioning permitted? Refer to above. It is a hearing. If Trump is not elected, then there will be a trial, and there will be questioning from both the prosecution and defense. Trump is doing everything possible to delay the trial. If he loses there will be a trial, and he will have his chance to explain his actions under oath. I am willing to bet right now, that if there is a trial, he will not testify. If he wins the Presidency, he will get the case terminated and that will be an injustice to the rule of law. We will become that much closer to a fascist state if that is the case. |
