Paul Your experience and insight is invaluable. On this quote though; <I once heard him quoted as saying "Buy a good company and go to sleep for twenty years." Unfortunately, this approach could very easily kill an investor in the world of high-tech companies>
I would like to cut the "Oracle" some slack. Since he doesn't buy Tech, he probably meant KO,G and the like, besides he may have imbibed too much cherry Coke that day <g>. Seriously though, I think if one picked tech leaders, say one or two from the four major SI groups, you could "sleep" for 3-5 yrs. As long as you woke up once or twice a year to stretch, check to see if DOJ nailed Bill, DELL has passed CPQ, or simply to catch the breeze on SI. What I am saying is that I expect MSFT/CA, CPQ/DELL,CSCO,INTC to still be Kings in their "hoods" in 3-5yrs, enough time to check out new pretenders to the throne. Hence the "good company and go to sleep" may work in Tech too if appropriately modified. Can you imagine not buying or selling a single stock in 3 yrs and still make 20-50%? At least that is what the numbers say!
Good investing!
