for me it comes down to racism
It's more than that. Everyone has some degree of racism. It's human nature to be discriminatory. Even leftists can be rather discriminating, especially leftist elitists.

But to go back to your question as to why people want to see a fascist state, it's simple. People are now living in alternate realities. Objective truth is something that people can simply will away.

That's what Trump represents. And he's the culmination of a trend that I've noticed over the past three decades.
