A federal employee union’s endorsement of Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has been misrepresented online as support from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for the 2024 U.S. Presidential elections.

The narrative surfaced online as the National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU), a union representing over 30 government departments and agencies including the IRS, endorsed, opens new tab the Harris-Walz campaign on Sept. 18. The NTEU is the only, opens new tab union for IRS workers.

Posts, opens new tab online falsely accuse the IRS of endorsing a candidate for the Nov. 5 election. One post carried a caption: “IRS endorses KAMALA .... part of the "SWAMPRATS FOR HARRIS"....”
