I disagree, Cognos has a special niche and they have also signed co-branding agreements with 3Com and Oracle.
One cannot simply purchase Andyne software instead of Cognos and hope to acheive the same returns, Powerplay is a product that establishes itself in every aspect of a system, you cannot change the software and hope everything works okay. Powerplay is vastly superior to any other BI software on the market and it is this that is their competitive advantage, much like MS's hold on the spreadsheet, why would you go to anything else when you have the superior product and its performing to expectations?
What HUM should concentrate on is the small to mid size companies that: A)don't have $ or can't realize scale on a Cognos or BusOb
product or B) Don't have enough terminals to justify the licensing
I think it is in this underserved segment that they'd fit in well, MS is recognizing this and developing new products to serve it, as our others. The fact nobody really has a toe-hold is the sign that HUM should jump right in, no large international co is going to use Andyne software as it just doesn't have the clout and recognition factor and the future for HUM is still relatively uncertain and IT managers covet security over all else that they can continue to not worry if the software is going to still be around next upgrade cycle.
