Tenchu's Thoughts (Brief): What Happens to the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact?

National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (Wikipedia)

Remember how the Democrats kept harping on about the Electoral College?

The Democrats even claimed that, over the past 32 years (not including last night), the Republicans only won the national popular vote once.

Hence the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact was born. No surprise that it was only signed thus far by "blue states."

Of course, the actual compact doesn't go into effect until the participating states represent 270 or more electoral votes, which hasn't happened yet.

But let's say that did happen before today, just for the sake of argument.

Now they found out that Trump not only won the electoral vote, but also the popular vote.

Would those states then respect the compact and give Trump all of their electoral votes?

The lesson here is this: Don't assume that the Democrats have the national popular vote all locked up. The Electoral College and the National Popular Vote are both double-edged swords.
