Someone very close to me who lives in San Diego has been neighbours for years with a couple who illegally entered the US many years ago from Mexico. There are extremely hard-working and have become indispensable to my friend as she ages. In return she has helped their kids gain scholarships to a very expensive school for rich kids in La Jolla, where they are flourishing.

Unfortunately the husband got caught and deported years ago before returning to San Diego, leaving him with one conviction which according to Trump's anointed new immigration czar is more than enough to deport the whole family, even though the kids don't speak much Spanish and have never lived in Mexico.

This in turn makes me very worried for my friend, as I rely on the neighbours to keep an eye on her and help maintain the house and yard.

What a travesty...
