Arrest in Elmshorn: 17-year-old allegedly planned attack on Christmas market
In Schleswig-Holstein, security authorities were probably able to prevent a serious terrorist attack. As Bild reports, investigators arrested a 17-year-old in Elmshorn last Wednesday. The arrested man is said to have planned a terrorist attack on a Christmas market.

The authorities got on his trail thanks to a tip from a US intelligence service that reported to the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) in spring 2024. After investigators in Schleswig-Holstein followed the trail, they were able to listen in on conversations and read messenger communications.
Senior public prosecutor Bernd Winterfeldt told Bild: “I can confirm that we are investigating on suspicion of preparing a serious act of violence endangering the state and of conspiring to commit a crime, namely murder. An arrest warrant has been issued against a 17-year-old suspect.” He is now being held in Schleswig Prison.
