As you know, Judaism rejects Christianity or Jesus Christ as the Son of G-d. So, does most of the world. Hinduism, Buddhists, normal Muslims, all couldn't care less about Christianity or Jesus Christ. Yes, I understand Muslims view Jesus as a prophet, but not as a son of G-d.
Now, of course, you are entitled to your Christian revisionist interpretation of Judaism, but the fact of the matter is that Judaism has very little in common, if anything, with Christianity. It is not even a religion that is primarily based on faith. Christianity is the religion of the after life. Judaism is the sublimation of this life. Christianity promises eternal happiness. Judaism makes G-d real in the lives of its people. I wouldn't expect you to understand and there is no need for you to do so. You are locked into your Christian faith.
The only thing that has ever concerned me about some Christians, about a third to a half of Christian Americans, is why does it bother to some of them that we reject Christianity? If you were strong in your faith, it should not make any difference what most Jews think. My read is that it does bother some of you guys because your faith is not strong enough and deep down you think that maybe we are right. Conversely, I have found that the Christians with the strongest faiths, the evangelicals in the USA, are one of the strongest supporters of Jews and Israel..
I am very well versed in Christian philosophy ( not religion) because I was forced to study it in graduate school as part of the philosophy curriculum. Two thirds of my professors were priests and ministers who had Ph.Ds in Philosophy. They chose to be Professors, not practicing members of their religion to the public. I use to have fascinating conversations with these professors, who became my friends and they taught me the ins and outs of their religion from a philosophical point of view. They tended to agree with me in terms of my analysis of the origin of anti-Semitism. |
