Amadeo, I don't know about all the other RBOCs, but when asked: "should we expect DSLAM RFP from Nynex", the response was "ultimately yes, the integarated solution would be desirable but not sure if it should be DSLAM or ATM. We aren't clear yet".

I know the answer is a little awkward but what they tried to say is they haven't made up their mind if it should be ATM or DSLAM. I think they prefer ATM at this stage, since Jeff on many occasions mentioned how "ATM was a solution waiting for an application and now the application is here and it's called ADSL".

ATM indeed is more suitable for tracking purposes. Eventually, the RBOCs would love to do variable billing, whether it's per email or by file size hasn't been determined yet. But the idea is the same, you pay for the traffic you generate over the network.

My general sense from talking to these folks is that none of the above will be a show stopper. They will deploy and then add.

Actually, I am impressed with Nynex. They have an open mind. Some suggestions made 3 weeks ago are now under serious consideration. Techie
