Your simplistic explanation may well be flawed.

It may be that Brumar is flawed in his mumpsimus... or more likely he is an attention whore.

"The word "mumpsimus" is a mistaken pronunciation of the Latin word sumpsimus, which means "we have taken". The word comes from a story about a priest who was corrected for saying "mumpsimus" instead of "sumpsimus" in a prayer, and who refused to change his habits. The story is thought to be from the Middle Ages, and may have been borrowed from Erasmus. The contrast between the two words gained momentum when Henry VIII gave a speech that included the line, "Some be too stiff in their old mumpsimus, others be too busy and curious in their sumpsimus"."
