Here in BC we are down to about 100k people without power, and there are still major highways on Vancouver Island that are closed because there are so many fallen trees. This problem was exacerbated because unprecedented droughts have weakened many trees.

The top gusts recorded in BC were off northern Vancouver Island at 170 kph.

The other issue in BC was that this system collided with an outbreak of Arctic air from the interior of the province. At one point last night the air temperate outside my place was 4C and the winds were blowing close to 100 hph, very brutal conditions when combined with heavy rain. I am not far from the ocean so you can imagine how treacherous it got in the mountains.

That collision of air masses also resulted in some major dumps of snow in the mountains. After a poor year last year due to lack of snow, the ski halls are much happier at this point.

Happily, the Arctic air has receded so the Vancouver temperature is back up to 10C today.
