I loved the idea of Matt Gaetz as AG because he is one of a handful of public officials who understands that Jan 6 was a setup and how the DOJ has abused the system to punish J6ers ever since. He grasps the scope of DOJ corruption; his nomination sent panic through DOJ prompting numerous officials to find lawyers and look for new jobs I don't know much about Pam Bondi aside from her representation of the president during impeachment. Accounts here that I respect are expressing disappointment and criticism of her nomination, which I will consider.
However, I feel very confident the president's commitment to accountability at the DOJ/FBI will not waver. His nomination of Todd Blanche and Emil Bove to top DOJ position reflects his intent to clean house at DOJ--Trump's decision as to the next FBI director is absolutely critical. Looks like Rogers is out, thankfully. That said, I think arguably the most important pick at DOJ is DC US Attorney. Trump has not yet named an individual to replace Matthew Graves but that nominee must be someone similar to Gaetz: a fearless, knowledgeable, and relentless warrior willing to publicly shame the department and those who have destroyed lives. The corrupt rot of the DOJ is not necessarily at main Justice but festers in the DC US Attorney's office, which carried out each political prosecution from Steve Bannon/Peter Navarro down to more than 1,000 J6ers.
Jack Smith's top prosecutors in the J6 case against Donald Trump were plucked from the DC US Attorney's office, who were already investigating Trump prior to Smith's appointment in Nov 2022. DC US Attorney works hand in glove with DC judges and the Washington FBI field office to rig the system against Trump, his allies, and his supporters. Not only will this end January 20 but the incoming DC US Attorney must investigate what happened in that office and pursue charges against every official including assistant US attorneys responsible for these abusive, selective, and destructive prosecutions. To me, that appointment is as important if not more so than attorney general. And hopefully we will hear a name soon.
