Thats because they were on an unsustainable path especially when they will no longer be funded by taxpayer's dollars. For years it was all about agenda not viewership and they were being financed by unconventional ways.

When Elon buys the company, it will be equivalent to a hostile takeover of an industry with evil motives and not serving the American public. That will change. We're living in very interesting times.
