Micaella, You want to find the closest backbone that your broker is using. One thing you can do is use a program like 4Net (can download from filez.com, download.com, freeware.com, shareware.com, etc.).

Use the traceroute function and see the name of the network where the last hops are. That's who you want to be your service provider. (if you see ALTERNET, that's UUNET).

The last thing you want is your order stuck in a router in Podunck, USA while the stock you would have had is flying like a rocket or dropping like a rock.
