Don (and others)

I wonder if Bob would reconsider his decision to leave TRP S&T? I understand his reason for getting out of that fund due to poor performance in '96 and '97 (2.0% and 1.4%) after a great '95 (55%), but it seems that the fund has recently out performed the market coming from a few points under performance to a few points over performance as of today. (VTSMX YTD up 6.2% and PRSCX YTD up 9.6%). I understand that this could be just temporary and good performance needs to be long term, but I am interested in learning more about good fund selection since I am trying to pick a good Health and/or Biotech fund to diversify just a bit from my large high tech position (and I like to try to beat the market with some of my funds).

Maybe someone can help my memory if this was covered:
I guess I am wondering what triggers DaBrink to go either for or against a fund? He was quick to pull the trigger on Brandwine for good reasons (going to large cash position), but slow to pull the plug on PRSCX. Is the reason because Brandywine went to cash while PRSCX just had poor stock selection after several good yrs and he was giving the fund room to run? To several listeners I have talked to, it sounded like DaBrink was a bit surprised by a caller pointing out the poor performance of PRSCX and he quickly removed it from his recommended list the next month. Could it be the 10 major holdings of the fund were not good or was it just too long without stellar performance?

thanks
Kirk out
