You are not seeing the big picture. You are first and foremost an American and as such you should care about the health of the society you live in. The health of our society has to come first i.e. OUR society, together , needs to ensure ALL of those kids have a good head start. It works best, if Society makes sure all the children have at least food, shelter and an education, an even start in life. Best for our society. That is exactly the theory behind universal K through 12! And boy did it work!! We leaped frogged toward a more humane society after that started! And that is exactly the formula the Nordic countries use to achieve the status of the happiest countries in the world. And we OWE it to the kids to provide them with a happy environment to grow up in! < s, many do. Rich kids wear better clothes than poor kids too. They eat better food too. And take nice vacations. And get better Christmas presents. Maybe good local education is needed to educate all kids so that poor kids grow up to be rich adults. Wouldn't that be nice?
