You're assuming he actually imposes them instead of using them as negotiating leverage.

I have no issue if he uses them with China to protect certain industries and intellectual property. We willingly outsourced our manufacturing to them and now we have to claw back some of what we gave away because it cost us good paying jobs. The government encouraged it and businesses were willing to follow because it meant more profit. The downside is that we de-industrialized areas and were unable to replace the losses with gains in exports to China.

Canada and Mexico have to be part of the solution. We can't give up more manufacturing jobs for imports like BYD. Between low wages and currency manipulation China could virtually wipe out our car industry which is part of the backbone of our military capacity if we get into a serious conflict
