If the reports are true that at least some of them are large, shooting them down is a hazard to anything on the ground. Large enough means they could carry a payload.

Over here in Jersey, there was a report of about 50 of them flying in from offshore.

Unless some agency has already tracked at least one to its source and are staying mum that's what's needed.
