Friends were in town from Knoxville Tennessee so the wife can do double knee-replacement surgery in Hong Kong. They are self-insured.

The procedure is apparently done on out-patient basis in Tennessee, and is done in HK with 6-days hospital recovery / observation stay. Costs $135k in Tennessee and $40,000 in Hong Kong.

All went very well and done-done.

Am guessing had they elected to do the procedure in geewhizbang hospital in Shenzhen across our northern frontier, a train ride of 45 min from CBD, the cost would have been reduced another 50-75%, to US$ 10,000 - 20,000.
