I'm following SPSS. I've used the product since 1980, but just switched to a newer product (Statistica by StatSoft). I suspect that SPSS would be a good long-term investor. My concerns are (1) they are overpriced. The module pricing approach makes SPSS a big-ticket item. If you want to do structural equation modeling, CHAID, or correspondence analysis, for instance, you have to purchase three additional modules. Statistica provides all of these procedures as standard -- all for $995. (2) The graphing power of SPSS is weak, compared to the competition. (3) I've heard from others that SPSS's data mining capabilities are weak, relative to SAS.
