WSJ’s business section’s featured article today –
Yet another QCOM snub.
In discussing INTC’s competitive issues, Christopher Mim’s did mention WOA laptops -- “2024 was finally the year of credible”, and that’s a positive.
However, Mim’s went out of his way to highlight MSFT, ARM, and even AAPL in this “credible” effort while just giving a passing mention to QCOM.
Dismissing QCOM’s incredible efforts in designing / producing a mobile processor (Snapdragon X Elite) to “....finally compete with Apple’s M-class mobile processors...” , Ironically leaving out QCOM entirely, he praises Arm and Apple- “...based on a combination of ARM technology and a great deal of custom chip design by Apple’s formidable in-house team...”
Why no mention of QCOM’s 2021 acquisition of Nuvia and QCOM’s further incredible efforts to develop their custom core Oryon processor.? It was just Arm and Apple ???

The company convinced other companies to port their own software, and created tools that allow most existing programs to run on the new laptops, in emulation. Chips in these devices are made by Qualcomm, and benchmarks show that they can finally compete with Apple’s M-class mobile processors, which are also based on a combination of ARM technology and a great deal of custom chip design by Apple’s formidable in-house team.
