Using fields of grass to feed cattle to make steak and milk seems like an inefficient process, with swarms of insects, storms, diseases what-not making it hard work.

In the good old days, one could simply grab a buffalo and hey presto, the natural world produced a tribe's food for a week. Or cast a few nets or drop a few lines to feast on fish.

Wild corn was not much use. Now a huge harvester can collect millions of succulent cobs in a day, and a tractor can plant millions too. Kiwifruit by the thousand tons are easily grown. Bananas too.

One would think the green off-cuts could be fed to bacteria/fungi/microbes, with photovoltaics for processing energy, A bit of time and growing later the amino acid brew would turn into DNA generated steak. Easy to write, but obviously harder to do. 90% of a cattle is not wanted - bone, bits and pieces.
