Britain produces lots of great things, Perkins Diesel is one and behind me is a Numatic Hetty 200 Vacuum made in England. Not to mention very high quality scent detection stands fabricated by a company in Folkestone. Great quality, much better than anything in the USA or Canada.

In Canada anyone can be a builder, painter etc. with no training and no apprenticeship. I don't know about the UK but you cannot do that in Germany. The result is a lot of unscrupulous people operate in the trades here in Canada.

When it comes to systems, continuity is important. I have seen successful businesses come unglued when a key person leaves, this person would be the one that knew all the customers, knew where every file was and knew where all the bodies were buried, plus knows why things are done a certain way. A lot of the time business is a personality game and you are dealing with a supplier or contractor because you like them and they are a known commodity. Peace of mind is a big thing which is why you ship FedEx, it always gets delivered and you can track it.

In the drilling industry, a prairie-raised farm kid is a top choice for hiring. These kids are known for their resourcefulness, calm under pressure, and ability to fix anything and handle isolation, qualities that make them a reliable and known commodity. It reminds me of something a friend once said about his girlfriend from Mexico: she could hunt, skin a deer, plant a garden, break a horse, and make 100 perfect tortillas in an hour while looking amazing without makeup.

Speaking of pests, last fall, we had a mouse infestation or explosion. I tried everything: traditional traps, poison, sound devices, and even hiring an exterminator, but nothing worked. Then I discovered glue traps. Within a few days, the problem was solved. Glue traps not only caught the mice but also snagged bugs I didn’t even know existed. I now use rat-sized glue traps, just in case, I’d rather not miss an opportunity should a Marxist California Rat come along.
