We have heard for years that the massive amount of cash and short-term assets relative to the market cap have been set aside for possible litigation to fight patent infringements.

If Summer Sprout has infringed any current patents, then UDC should initiate a shock and awe campaign.

A quick search of US Patents shows 123 assignments to Summer Sprout - assignment.uspto.gov

Not all are related to UDC, but some do have references to Organic Luminescent Materials - assignment.uspto.gov

I would not think that the due diligence of the US Patent Office would approve/assign a new patent that is infringing on a currently assigned patent.

If the new patent assignments describe materials that can match or come close to the specifications of UDCs current green and red emitters, then we are in bad shape. Even if the ever-elusive Phosphorescent blue is commercialized and secured with technology and new patents, blue alone will not overcome the loss of green and red.

We better/should have sufficient analyst coverage and questions on this issue during the Needham conference on 01/15.

I've been long since 2013 and haven't done too bad. But, depending on the UDC response it may be time to seriously reevaluate and redeploy my position in UDC.

Just some thoughts,

David
