The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) is run by a board of directors and an administrator:
  • Board of directors
    The ACP is governed by an 11-member board of directors that sets policies for the canal's operation, improvement, and modernization. The board's members have overlapping terms to ensure independence from presidential administrations. The board's chairman is appointed by the president of Panama and holds the rank of minister of state for Canal affairs.

  • Administrator
    The administrator is the highest-ranking executive officer of the ACP and is responsible for implementing the board's decisions. The administrator is appointed for a seven-year term and may be re-elected. As of July 2024, Ricaurte Vásquez Morales is the administrator of the Panama Canal.

The ACP is an independent agency of the Government of Panama that manages, operates, and maintains the Panama Canal.
