"Or whether "good enough" materials can now be made "

Good point. Some old red patents may have expired and many weren't good enough for today's displays.

Slacker eluded to red in some cell phones but from what I have read Sprout's red is mainly being used in a multi stack design for Red Chinese auto tail lights. Sprout eludes to a 20 ton capacity at some point which indicates to me host materials and other layers in an oled display.

It seems logical that BOE and others would not risk patent infringement if it means UDC would cut them off of green and hopefully soon blue emitters.
