OT: DEI policies ENSURE that the best candidates make the grade by removing barriers caused by racism, sexism, homophobia, etc..

If you throw out DEI to ensure that only white males are hired, you weaken the candidate pool and hence those who make the grade.

It's very simple once you set aside your ideological bias and look at what really happens in the world we live in.
