Baird, in the Gulf War, it was the U.N. who did not give the authorization for the allied task force to drive to Baghdad. Whether there were concerns of "balances of power", I suppose there were. But clearly George Bush felt that in order to keep full support, he had to stay within the objectives of the U.N. --- Exactly what Clinton is doing also. You might be interested to know that according to a news story, last week both President Clinton and Madeline Albright have had telephone conversations with former Pres. George Bush.

I and 36% of other Americans feel that Clinton should forget about the UN for awhile, and go in and remove Saddam. I think we should completely take over Iraq. Simply taking out Saddam isn't going to be a permanent solution - someone just like him will fill his place -- that's how it always is in these non-democratic countries. We need to go in there and stay in there for a good long while, if anything is really going to be accomplished with a lasting impact.

re I was referring to the use of pepper spray by police on an indigenous people (U.S. citizens).

What do you have exactly against pepper spray? It's not a toxic substance; it's pepper. Don't you put pepper on your eggs? Would you rather that police just kill people who won't respond to commands? I don't understand your position on that either. Again, comparing pepper spray use by anyone with Saddam gassing his own people is not worth talking about.
