Speaking of voices, it’s fascinating how pattern-oriented we are as humans. Once we associate a band with a unique or iconic voice, that voice becomes the defining feature of the band's identity. Often, it’s the voice we recognize first—not the instrumentation or the music itself.

This is why personnel changes, especially vocalists, often spark so much debate among fans. For example, think of Yes with Jon Anderson versus Trevor Horn or Jon Davison; Saga with Michael Sadler versus Rob Moratti; Asia with John Wetton versus John Payne; or Nightwish with Tarja Turunen, Anette Olzon, or Floor Jansen. Each lineup has its merits, but fans can’t help comparing because that iconic voice is so tied to how we experience the music.
