At the beginning of the last century, when much more of a free market existed than it does today, batteries, internal combustion engines and steamers all vied for market share of burgeoning car sales. Each had positives and negatives, but gasoline (and diesel) power eventually won. Consumer choice, not any "petroleum strong arm" bullshit..
